Web and Email on T-Mobile for $6 a Month
I've had a few people ask me how to setup Web and Email access on their Notebook/PDA through their T-Mobile Cell Phone using the $6 per month T-Zones access. Here's how to do it in THREE EASY STEPS.
I'm using a Motorola A630 connected with Bluetooth to a PowerBook running Tiger (10.4.2) but the process is similar for almost any device you can connect to your phone.
Step 1
Pair the Phone with the Mac
Apple Menu>System Preferences>Bluetooth>
Which lauches the Bluetooth Setup Assistant
Set up new device>Continue>Mobile Phone>Continue>(Make sure your phone is "discoverable")
Select Phone>Enter Code>Use a direct ...>Continue
Username=Blank>Password=Blank>GPRS CID String=*99#>Modem Script=Your Phone Model (Ross Barkman has a ton of scripts)>Continue>Quit
Step 2
Set the Web Proxy
Apple Menu>System Preferences>Network>Bluetooth>Proxies>Web Proxy (HTTP)>216.155.165.50 8080>Close
Step 3
Connect using Internet Connect
Applications>Internet Connect>Bluetooth>Connect
Give it 30 seconds and you're all set. You can now send and receive POP or IMAP using Mail and Web browse using Safari. It's a little funky because you're going through the WAP Proxy. Some sites will give you their WAP version and you can't download any files over 300k. I haven't had any other problems though and when you need a connection this is a life saver.
